The “Akatsuka Detective Agency” sits nestled in a quiet residential district of Tokyo, Shimo-Akatsuka in Itabashi Ward. Goro and Gure are laid-back employees who are more often found kicking back in a snack bar downstairs called “Kirara”, fraternizing with its part-time barmaid, Moemi. One day, they hear a loud rapping on the ceiling above. By the third knock, they realize it’s the signal from agency chief, Kaoru Kaze, that there’s a new client! They rush upstairs to be cussed out by their boss who has been drinking since noon, but then turn their attention to the stranger in the room: a man named Kawada who is looking for his daughter whom he “lost” a month ago.

The Edo Period, the world of the samurai. The youth Narimichi, the son of a Shogun, who has thus always lived a very restricted life, and the wild girl Yu, spirited away from her mountain village as a baby and raised living free in the mountains. These two, whose circumstances are such that they should never meet, come together before the miraculous ‘lightning tree’, and embark upon a doomed love affair. Knowing they will never be together, they seek all the more to go deep into each other’s hearts. Since neither has ever been in love before, their encounter with it brings spiritual growth. For those of the modern age, far more free than that in which Narimichi and Yu lived, the film will express the value and wonder of love from the heart, without fear of being hurt. This is the story of a miracle of love, between two people who should never have met.

Toraji is a stereo-typical yakuza who is hoping to become a rakugo (comic) storyteller. Ryuji is a designer who has terrible taste, but owns a fashion shop in Ura-Harajuku, a shopping district famous for its avant-garde clothing. The story develops around the relationships Toraji and Ryuji have with the offbeat and comical characters around them. This fast-paced comedy is a collection of one-off stories which blends the modern and traditional by basing each episode on a classic rakugo storyline.

Hina, a student at Nikko High School, goes out one evening with Beniko, a girl from her year. They get split up and Hina ends up in a strange meeting with a man named Ikumi in a game arcade. The next day, Ikumi turns up as the new teacher at her school. Ikumi doesn’t seem to recognize Hina but the wheels of fate are slowly moving to reunite them in what is a passionate story of forbidden love.
