TBS International Program Sales Facebook Page Leads Japanese Broadcasters in Likes

2013.04.24

The official TBS International Program Sales Facebook page had attracted more than 20,000 Likes by April 2013, making it the most popular of Japanese broadcasters' Facebook pages featuring English-language information. Opened in September, 2012, the page has been winning an ever bigger audience.

The Facebook page offers the latest information on popular TBS shows like SASUKE, Takeshi's Castle and Fun TV with Kato-chan and Ken-chan as well as the international versions of these programs. Also featured are bilingual updates on the full range of content TBS is offering for international sales, including the latest drama, animation, movies, documentaries, re-makes and formats.

TBS also provides information on the site about its various international initiatives, including Channel Japan, Japan-Vietnam cooperative projects, the co-production kawai style with Singapore's MediaCorp, J-PROJECT ASIA, and HELLO JAPAN. Also covered are news on TBS programs and their international versions, highlights of international content market events and a full range of news that could not readily be shared until now with conventional media.

As 95% of the page's fans are overseas, it's playing an increasingly important role in international communications about TBS content. Updates are also posted to help promote new content released on the new TBS official SASUKE YouTube channel.

The Facebook page also functions as part of TBS's engagement with the JAPACON portal site, managed by the Visual Industry Promotion Organization (VIPO), which helps promote Japanese content worldwide.

Among Japanese broadcasters, TBS was an early entrant in the international content market and boasts 50 years of experience informing and entertaining viewers worldwide. In recent years, TBS has strengthened its international content sales and its domestic and international communication initiatives. In 2009, TBS launched the searchable TBS Online Catalog. In 2010, TBS became one of the first Japanese broadcasters to offer a Twitter feed in both English and Japanese and continues to leverage SNS in promoting its content worldwide.

According to Facebook, over a billion people worldwide and over 16 million people in Japan use the service. Increasingly, corporations and public entities in Japan are finding it to be an effective tool for marketing and public relations.
