TBS’s "SASUKE" US version Season 4 Premiere - Gets off to Solid Start on G4 & NBC

2012.05.30

Season 4 of the “American Ninja Warrior,” the US spin-off series of TBS's sports variety show "SASUKE" (ANW4) got off to a solid start on the primetime broadcast on both G4 and NBC as the ratings on both networks climbed drastically over last year's ANW3 debut.

ANW4 was aired on US cable network G4 and terrestrial network NBC, and marked the first time ever in US television history that the same season of a series has aired in primetime on two different networks during the same season.

G4 aired the two-hour primetime special on May 20th at 9P-11P, showing the western regional preliminaries. According to US media, the audience of the show was triple the prior four week Sunday time period mark with Total Viewers (+228%) and quadruple among key Adults 18-49 (+330%). The premiere also tripled the network’s 2nd Quarter 2011 Evening average with Adults 18-49 (+216%) and marked more than double-digit growth across all age demos compared to the debut of ANW3 last year.

The NBC season debut of ANW4, showing the western regional finals, soared 41 percent in 18-49 rating above NBC’s special telecast of ANW3 on August 22nd last year and is up 48 percent in Total Viewers. ANW4 tied in a head to head with ABC’s “The Bachelorette” during the time period in the 18-49 category although ABC outplayed NBC in Total Viewers. For its second hour from 10-11p.m., ANW4 was #1 outright among ABC, CBS and NBC in all key adult-male demos.

The New York Times reported the next morning, “ the shows — the new ‘American Ninja Warrior’ on NBC and ABC’s long-time summer dating show, ‘The Bachelorette’ — managed to tie with a 2.4 rating, an unexpectedly strong showing for ‘Ninja’.”

ANW4 is scheduled to be aired for ten weeks until July 23rd on both G4 and NBC on the primetime. The broadcast marked the first time ever in US television history that the same season of a series has aired in primetime on two different networks during the same season.
