First Co-Production Drama with Singapore to be Officially Launched
- To Be Broadcast in Both Countries at Year-End-

2011.10.27

27 October 2011 – TBS Television, Inc and MediaCorp TV Singapore Pte, have signed a bilateral agreement to co-produce a TV drama. This is the first co-production drama to be produced by the two countries.

After signing a Strategic Alliance Agreement on 1 March of this year, TBS and MediaCorp have been in discussions regarding collaborations in program production, events, and a wide variety of other areas. This co-production drama agreement is the first project to be launched under this partnership

The title of the drama is “Mooncake.” Shot entirely on-location in Singapore, it features a romantic story between a Singaporean SCDF officer and a Japanese woman. The single-episode, one-hour drama is scheduled to be broadcast in both Japan and Singapore, at the end of December.

“Mooncake” (called “Geppei (月餅)” in Japanese) comes from the name of a Chinese pastry enjoyed at the time of the Mid-Autumn festival, when it is the custom to split it equally among family and friends. Imbued in the title “Mooncake” is the importance of ties between family, and ties between people and people.

MediaCorp is Singapore’s leading media company with the most complete range of platforms, spanning television, radio, newspapers, magazines, movies, digital and out-of-home media. Through their strategic partnership, TBS and MediaCorp will work together to strengthen their content-creation potential and influence in Asia, for the goal of expanding their global business opportunities.
