A First for Japanese Commercial Television! “Ah, You’re Really Gone Now” Lead, Masakazu Tamura, Wins ‘Outstanding Actor’ at the Monte-Carlo TV Festival

2009.06.12

Masakazu Tamura won ‘Outstanding Actor’ at the Monte-Carlo TV Festival for his work in the TV special “Ah, You’re Really Gone Now” which aired on TBS on Jan. 12th, 2009. NHK has won this title in the past; however this is the first time that a commercial television station in Japan has been accorded this honor.

“Ah, You’re Really Gone Now,” based on author Saburo Shiroyama’s memoirs found after his death which recount his memories of his time with wife, Yoko, from their meeting to her passing, is a drama of learning the precious wonder of the relationship between a husband and wife. The innocent wife and the caring husband, so full of pure love for each other, are respectively played by Sumiko Fuji and Masakazu Tamura.

It was Tamura’s solid performance in this role that got him voted “Outstanding Actor” at this event.

Upon hearing the news of his award, Tamura joyfully commented, “I cannot believe it. It is truly an honor that this work I had the privilege of participating in was reviewed so highly, and even won an award, so far away from Tokyo in Monte-Carlo. I am truly speechless… Personally speaking, difficulties these last few years had led me to reevaluate my abilities as an actor. So I hope this award will infuse me with great energy during the remaining time I have in my acting career.”
