One year ago, Atsumi apparently tried to commit suicide, and has been in a coma since then. Through ‘sensing’, a type of neurological treatment allowing communication with a comatose patient, Koichi tries to find out why she tried to kill herself, and to encourage her to wake up. Afraid of what he may find by going into her unconscious this way, but desperate to help bring her around and encouraged by her doctor, who says Koichi is vital to this happening, he undertakes the ‘sensing’. Koichi explains to Atsumi that, depressed over her work as a manga artist, she tried to kill herself, that she has been in a coma for a year, and it is through sensing that they are having this conversation. He asks her why she attempted suicide, but she answers only that she wants him to find the plesiosaur picture.

Late summer 1972. Truck driver, Yasu, is in the highest spirits singing to himself while working and restraining himself from his favorite hobbies of drinking and gambling. The reason? His wife is about to give birth to a son. Yasu himself never had parents to speak of, his mother having died while he was very young, and his father having abandoned him. Yasu's wife, Misako, also lost both her parents when she was young. And so the two spend their days in happiness, protecting and watching their son, Akira, grow. Until an unforeseen tragedy strikes when Akira is only 3. A freakish accident occurs that results in Misako sacrificing her life to protect her son. Yasu loses himself in grief and remorse, but recovers when he vows to raise the son he loves as best as possible even as it tests the limits of his wits and abilities. Though forced to battle feelings of anxiety, confusion and helplessness, Yasu clumsily yet honestly manages to rear his son with the support of friends in this moving tale of ultimate love between father and son.

A fired-up high-school teacher who teaches his baseball team the importance of having a dream, and the students he leads, burning with this dream of a national championship. A group of modern young people of the baseball club at Futakotamagawa High School: they have no hope for the future, and no idea of what they want to do. ‘The world is full of hope,’ a new teacher, Kawato shouts at them. ‘Don’t make fun of people who have dreams.’ Overcoming problems with the new players, and an injury to their captain, with Kawato, they move into the semifinal tournament that leads to their final chance at a national championship. Will the dreams of the Futakotamagawa baseball team come true? Meanwhile, graduation day draws near..…

The setting is Futakotamagawa Gakuen High School. Upset that the baseball club has been forced to suspend its activities after a scandal caused by one of its members, the boys have slipped into delinquency. This is an inspiring story of blood, sweat and tears as Kawato, the dedicated schoolteacher, tries to open up communications with the toughs through baseball, and we see the boys clawing their way back from delinquency as they set their sights on Koshien despite their lack of skill.
