AMERICA'S FUNNIEST HOME VIDEOS Celebrates 24th Anniversary

2013.08.21

"AMERICA'S FUNNIEST HOME VIDEOS (AFV)", the American version of TBS's FUN TV WITH KATO-CHAN AND KEN-CHAN: FUNNY HOME VIDEO CORNER celebrates its 24th anniversary.

After the ABC Network (Disney/ABC) began airing AFV in 1989, the show became the longest-running primetime entertainment program in the 60-year history of the ABC network in the autumn of 2006.

Produced by Vin Di Bona, four-time Emmy award-winning producer, recipient of the prestigious George Foster Peabody Award and a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, under license from TBS, AFV will go into its 24th year in the Fall of 2013. It is rare for a single program to continue airing more than 10 years due to the fierce competition of US TV networks. The show became part of history in 2009 when The Smithsonian Institution selected the show for inclusion into their permanent entertainment collections.

It is safe to say that nearly every American is familiar with this long-running series which has enjoyed continued popularity over two decades. More than 1 million video clips have been contributed by the audiences and the total number of the fans for the official Facebook page of AFV exceeds 1.88 million.

In partnership with TBS's exclusive format and variety program agent, Bellon Entertainment, TBS brought AFV to the world in 1988 and it stands as the most successful Japanese format to date. The shows are produced using only American staff and cast, with Japanese original clips occasionally airing.
