“American Ninja Warrior” earns top rating in key demographic for Monday night, beating “24” and other popular programs!

2014.06.06

The sixth season of “American Ninja Warrior (ANW6)”, the localized US version of the TBS sports entertainment program “SASUKE”, is off to a highly successful start! Broadcast on June 2 in prime time from 9:00p.m. to 11:00p.m., the program’s second episode beat out all other networks’ programming to earn the No. 1 rating for Monday night in the 18-49 age demographic, the most coveted by advertisers.

Competition in ANW6’s time slot is stiff and includes such well-known and popular programs as “24: Live Another Day” (FOX), “MasterChef” (FOX), “The Bachelorette” (ABC), and “48 Hours” (CBS). The US entertainment media reported widely on the fact that, despite its two-hour duration, ANW6 was able to surpass such formidable programs in the ratings and conquer Monday night.

ANW6 has held regional qualifiers in Los Angeles, Dallas, St. Louis, Miami, and Denver, and the finals will be held in Las Vegas this month. Featuring the Dallas qualifiers, ANW6 episode 2 reached 5.262 million viewers in the 18-49 age demographic. Moreover, viewership in this demographic increased 19 percent over the result for episode 1. ANW has been broadcast by the NBC terrestrial broadcasting network since 2012. The rating in the 18-49 demographic for ANW6 episode 2 is among the program’s highest ever, approaching the result for the ANW1 season finale broadcast in July 2012 and matching the rating for the “American Ninja Warrior: USA vs. Japan” special broadcast in January 2014. Since it is already logging such high ratings in its early episodes, it will be interesting to see how ANW6 performs as it progresses towards its September finale!
