“SASUKE VIETNAM” enters production with stylish opening ceremony and largest budget in Vietnam history!

2015.04.30

On April 26 at the headquarters of nationally owned broadcaster Vietnam Television (VTV), a stylish and impressive opening ceremony marked the start of production of “SASUKE VIETNAM,” the local version of TBS’s sports entertainment program “SASUKE.” In attendance were TBS Holdings President Toshichika Ishihara, VTV President Tran Binh Minh, Consul-General of Japan in Ho Chi Minh City Satoshi Nakajima, and many other guests. In their speeches, the two network presidents expressed their thanks for the effort and passion of those involved in the production. Then the attendees, including those filling a large grandstand, enjoyed a show celebrating the excitement of “SASUKE.” Ryo Matachi, past Japan “SASUKE” Finalist, demonstrated his rope climbing skills, and dancers dressed as rappers and ninja added fun to the proceedings.

The shooting of “SASUKE VIETNAM” took place from April 27 to May 6, with some 140 competitors taking on the world’s most grueling obstacle course. Hosted by Tokyu Binh Duong Garden City, a planned residential and commercial development located 30 km north of Ho Chi Minh City, the production represents the largest monetary investment in the history of Vietnamese television. “SASUKE VIETNAM” is the third “SASUKE” format program after “SASUKE” in Japan and “American Ninja Warrior” in the US to feature the original four-stage obstacle course. Over 20 obstacles, including popular original classics like the Warped Wall and Tarzan Rope, have been reproduced in their original scale.

Starting in September on VTV’s main terrestrial channel VTV3, “SASUKE VIETNAM” will air as a 20-episode series on Saturdays in prime time at 8:00 p.m. VTV has contracted with TBS to use the “SASUKE” format to produce the Vietnam version as VTV content and plans to produce “SASUKE” content on a yearly basis.
