“BrainSurge” is an American children's game show aired on Nickelodeon and hosted by Jeff Sutphen. Scott Stone and Clay Newbill are its Executive Producers. The show debuted in September 2009. Its format was adapted from the Tokyo Broadcasting System Television game show “Brain Survivor” produced in 2002. Since 2009, a total of three seasons and 120 episodes have been aired in the US.

During the third season the series was presented as “Family BrainSurge,” with parents and their children teaming up to compete. Nickelodeon aired celebrity episodes featuring actors, music stars and athletes, as well as former CNN host Larry King. BrainSurge was also adopted as one of the rides in Mall of America’s indoor theme park.

Local productions of “Brain Survivor” started first in Korea and then Spain and now include North and Latin America. The format currently broadcasts in 70 countries and territories around the world. Most recently, the popular Latin American version broadcast by Discovery Kids was greenlit for a second season. With this Emmy nomination, even more broadcasters may be encouraged to give this successful format a go.
