Paris in the early 20th century.
Two young women from Japan are living there.
One is Fujiko, who is expected to become a devoted wife supporting her husband, yet secretly dreams of becoming a painter.
The other is Chizuru, born into a samurai family line. A master of the naginata, she nevertheless finds her heart drawn to ballet.
One day, Chizuru happens to come to Fujiko’s aid when she is caught up in trouble—an encounter that turns out to be a fateful reunion between the two, who had once met as children in Yokohama.
Upon learning of Chizuru’s dream, Fujiko discovers that Olga, the mother of a young man named Ruslan who lives in the same apartment building, is a former ballerina from Russia. She asks Olga to give Chizuru ballet lessons.
Though they face many barriers as foreigners from the East, the two young women move forward toward their dreams—until one day, Fujiko’s uncle, her guardian, suddenly disappears.
Will Fujiko and Chizuru be able to grasp their respective dreams?
Journey with these two dream-filled girls to the dazzling city of Paris, a hundred years ago.

In 2014, after an absence of 40 years, the world’s greatest artistic treasure, the Mona Lisa, again pays a visit to Japan.
Asahina, the museum’s Asia Director, is assigned the task of strengthening its guard against the constant threat that the famous painting will be stolen. He recommends the brilliant appraiser Riko Rinda for appointment as a curator. With magazine journalist Yuto Ogasawara in tow, Riko flies to Paris and easily passes the qualifying test. With Misa Ryusenji, who has also qualified, she sets to work studying her new field, but the more she learns about the Mona Lisa the less certain she becomes, and gradually her powers of judgment are affected. Ogasawara, trying to find out what is going on, learns something astonishing about how, 500 years ago, da Vinci painted a puzzle into the Mona Lisa’s eyes. Now a plot emerges around the painting, involving both France and Japan. Will Riko free herself from the Mona Lisa’s curse and bring the case to a happy end?
