Rikka is 18 and in the last year of high school. But she still acts like she’s in puberty.
It’s spring break and high school seniors are looking ahead to their college entrance exams. Rikka Takanashi and her boyfriend, Yuta Togashi, have been an item for a long time and live together, but their relationship seems frozen in time, unable to mature to the next level. Then one day, Rikka’s elder sister, Tohka, declares she’s taking her sister and the family to Italy where she’s landed a stable job.
Yuta panics despite agreeing with Tohka that Rikka can’t be left alone in Japan, and her chances of getting into college are slim. Still, the two lament the idea of being torn from each other. So at the suggestion of his friends, Yuta decides the two will elope, and a dramatic chase across Japan begins.

Yuta Togashi is a former sufferer of "2nd year middle school" disease - a condition of immense self-love, delusion and fetishism often brought on by puberty. Although Yuta has graduated from middle school and, ostensibly, the "disease", he remains afflicted by abhorrent memories of it that he would like to bury forever. In hopes of leading a trouble-free and smooth-sailing high school life, he vows to part with his "2nd year middle school" disease with incantations such as "Into the pyre of darkness, be cast and gone!" and "Seal it away forever!" Just as Yuta is bidding farewell to this long dark delusional age in his life, he encounters Rikka Takanashi, a girl also suffering from "2nd year middle school" disease. Though ready to take a first step toward a long-awaited new life of tranquility, Yuta instead feels the "dark flame master" power in his right arm re-emerging in response to the girl's Jao Shingan, a "wicked eye" power that resonates with many. "With this, my contract with you is finished," she proclaims.
