Akane Mitsusawa dreams of becoming a top-flight business consultant. But under orders of her lover and boss, Tsuyoshi Sakamoto, her first job as a rookie is to go undercover as a new employee at a venerable cosmetics company and be an industrial spy. She succeeds in earning the trust and esteem of her beauty department colleagues, and is quickly promoted to product development at headquarters, supported by Yurie Minegishi in human resources. And then one day, she gets a directive from Sakamoto to steal the secret to a long-selling, medicated skin conditioner that is slated for a model change. Fortunately, Akane is assigned to the R&D lab in charge of new skin conditioner development where she is given a cool reception by her new boss, Chika Nakanowatari. Determined to get the information she needs, Akane follows Nakanowatari to a research facility in Shirakami, but ends up getting lost in the snowy mountains. When she is at last found by Nakanowatari, Akane is surprised by the first-time display of emotion she receives from Nakanowatari, who slaps her and then embraces her. Akane begins to see the passion with which the people at this company make their cosmetic products and gradually begins to harbor doubts about her real mission. Then when she learns of Nakanowatari’s sad past, Akane feels her own life beginning to change.

Akiyuki Tomonaga and his wife Yu have been married seven years. Akiyuki is a graphic designer, and is quite happy in his work and private life. One day, he attends the wedding of his younger half-brother Ryo Ichinose. However, Ryo runs off with a young woman who appears at the wedding, leaving the bride Jumonji Azusa at the altar. Akiyuki bows his head and apologizes to Jumonji, and this is the prelude to a growing intimacy between them. Is it love, or is Jumonji after revenge? And what do Yu and Ryo think as they become aware of this relationship? Akiyuki and Yu, it seems, are headed for divorce. Further complications arise for Akiyuki and Yu when Akiyuki’s close friend Shunsuke and lawyer Reiko, advising on divorce, get involved. With a theme of loneliness, this deftly woven drama portrays adult love affairs that leave the viewer guessing who will end up with whom.

Due to his lack of drive, Shiro has failed the university entrance exams three times and just can’t seem to do anything right. When Shiro starts to contemplate why somebody like him is living at all, a mysterious man named Tendo appears, calling himself an “angel.” Tendo warns Shiro that his death is just around the corner if he does not push himself harder. Shiro takes the initiative and ends up saving someone else from an untimely death. In this way, Shiro avoids one brush with death after another by listening to Tendo’s frustrating riddles. With a lot of laughter and a few tears, Shiro’s trial teaches the secret to living a full life is hard work and confidence.
