TBS “SASUKE” US version American Comic Debut!

2012.05.16

American Ninja Warrior, the US spin-off series of TBS’s giant sports variety show “SASUKE,” will make its American comic debut! DC Entertainment, one of the largest American comic publishers and home to iconic brands DC Comics and its internationally recognized icons such as SUPERMAN and BATMAN, has set out to create a comic version of the new series.

Season 4 of the new Ninja Warrior spin-off series "American Ninja Warrior" (ANW4) will premiere on May 20th and run until July 23rd just before the start of the London Olympics. These programs will air on US cable network G4 and terrestrial network NBC, and will mark the first time ever in US television history that the same season of a series has aired in primetime on two networks at during the same season.

The comic strips have been born out of a collaboration between G4 and DC Comics as a part of marketing campaigns to promote the ANW4 broadcast. A new strip will be released in select DC Comics publications and online every week in the first four weeks prior to broadcast. In the two strips that have already been released, world-famous characters like BATMAN and Wonder Woman so far have made an appearance. As the comics are released on the Internet, Japanese fans will also be able to enjoy them.

Just the fact that it is extremely rare for a Japanese television program to appear in such a hallmark of American culture as comic books, not to mention that American super heroes would play a supporting role, is testament to the show’s strong popularity in the U.S.

With this unprecedented promotion of season 4 of the “Sasuke” spin-off series “American Ninja Warrior,” the fans will certainly be whipped into a frenzy this summer!
