On the heels of winning at the Soul Drama Awards, TBS Drama ”JIN”, wins a MIPCOM Buyers Award.
TBS drama “JIN”, which was aired last October, won the MIPCOM Buyers Award for Japanese Drama.
The MIPCOM Buyers Award for Japanese Drama was co-hosted by Reed Midem and the International Drama Festival in Tokyo. They invite judges from 12 countries such as France, Australia and UAE and have them review the dramas submitted by Japanese terrestrial broadcasters and select “the best Japanese drama which international buyers would most want to acquire”. In “JIN”, a doctor living in the modern era time travels to the “Samurai era”. This Japanese concept and the accurate depiction of contemporary and Edo period life were highly regarded by the judges.
The award ceremony took place at the opening party of MIPCOM. After introducing all of the drama titles from the Japanese broadcasters, they announced the prizewinner and presented a plaque to TBS representatives. Mr. Ryoichi Nitta, President of the Content Business Division of TBS commented, “It is my great honor to receive this wonderful award. This drama is a story about a doctor who experiences time travel to the past, and it is the theme of this drama that there is no difference between “love” in each of the eras even though there major differences in medical technology. I strongly hope that people all over the world watch “JIN” and feel the underlying theme of “love” in this drama; because I believe TV programs help us to understand each other beyond the differences of ethnicity or religion.”
“JIN” has also won more than 20 awards from home and abroad and it has just won the Excellence Award in the Mini Series category of the Seoul Drama Awards in September.
In “JIN”, Jin Minakata, a brain surgeon who has time traveled to the Edo period, saves the lives of people despite the lack of modern medical technology and medicine, and even meets with heroes of the late Edo period, such as Ryoma Sakamoto, Kaisyu Katsu and Koan Ogata through the medical know-how he possesses. Eventually, he finds himself caught up in the historic events at the end of Edo period. This spectacular period drama and sci-fi spectacle is based on the comic book by Motoka Murakami. The comic series is in “Super Jump” published by Syueisya.
