“Brain Survivor” is a variety program produced by TBS which aired on its network in 2002. The format was licensed to a U.S. production company by TBS’ exclusive licensing agent Bellon Entertainment Inc. . The U.S. version, titled “Brainsurge,” airs on Nickelodeon, the largest children’s channel in the world. The series premiered, in September 2009 as a daily 30 minute program targeting children 6 to 11 years old. The program attracts an average of 2 million viewers every time it airs, enabling Nickelodeon to claim the largest share of viewers age 2-11 and 6-11 in the same time slot. The channel also took a 20% plus share in almost all kids viewer targets. Due to the program’s great ratings success, Nickelodeon ordered a 2nd season of an additional 40 episodes which is scheduled to air in the same timeslot.

The original “Brain Survivor” sees 16 people try to knock each other out of competition in a tournament divided into 4 stages of quizzes which test their memory and concentration. The contestant that makes it to the final round has a shot at prize money worth 3,000,000 yen. Keeping the basic concept the same, the American version was adapted for Nickelodeon’s audience.. In addition to America,, Brain Survivor was successfully remade in Korea and Spain.

With long-running hits like America's Funniest Home Videos, Ninja Warrior and MXC, TBS continues to be a strong provider of content in the global arena distributing programs of all genres to over 100 countries.
