For generations, the blue-blooded Homonji family has been devoted to a pure and rigorous pursuit of knowledge in all forms, regardless of the powers that be or the fortunes of the aristocracy with whom they sympathize. But now, inheriting the pedagogic mantel of the family as its 89th master is Sharaku Homonji, a super genius with an IQ of 246, and a man with time on his hands. “Ah, I’m so bored. Isn’t there a puzzle I can solve?” Sharaku goes in search of “worthwhile” mysteries to crack, putting his super genetic brain to the test.

A forty-year-old man has married a pretty woman 20 years younger than he is. However, with their marriage as a turning point, his fate dramatically changes. The mother of his newly-wed bride is his old lover! What is worse, the mother voluntarily moves herself in with the newly weds. Ando, the head of prestigious Izumida Hospital, drafts Takashi, a battle-hardened and brilliant surgeon. On his first day, he meets Detective Mizusawa who has brought in a critically injured criminal whom she was forced to shoot. Against the wishes of his superior, Takashi miraculously saves the criminal. Takashi learns of another patient in the hospital that has been in a coma for 21 years. Takashi suggests a way he may be able to revive the man, but is stubbornly opposed by Ando. This arouses Takashi's suspicions that Ando may have a personal stake in keeping the patient in a vegetative state; and he and Detective Mizusawa set out to unravel the mystery behind this 21-year old incident and ultimately learn more about their mutual past in the process.

This is not a typical heartwarming tale of the love between a mother and daughter. Be prepared for a knock-down, drag-out fight, where stranger is pitted against stranger in a battlefield called “home.” The heroine is an uncoordinated, fun-loving woman who is used to having her own way and could never be mistaken as the model mother. In spite of herself, she discovers how to love and care for a daughter who defies convention. It’s not easy, but it is uproariously fun.
