Café Funiculi Funicula is a coffee shop where Kazu Tokita works. There is a mysterious urban legend about this shope. When you sit at a certain table here, you can go back in time to any point you choose in the past, but there are also some uncompromising rules.

Wakaba Fujitani is a high school sophomore in Fukui Prefecture. Ever since she was little, she has been an ardent fan of the JETS, a top high school cheer dance team from her hometown that won the U.S. national championship for the first time. Her dream is to one day join the team and win the coveted U.S. national championship again. But when Wakaba fails to pass the school’s entrance examination, her aspiration of even becoming a cheer dancer are crushed, and she settles for attending a high school in a neighboring town where she spends most of her time merely cheering at sporting events as part of her school’s weak cheerleading club. Then one day, Yuri, a transfer student from Tokyo with a forceful personality arrives and befriends Wakaba, suddenly suggesting that the two of them try out for the cheer dance team. Startled by this turn of events, Wakaba slowly begins to feel a rekindling of her long-cherished childhood dream.

Akane Mitsusawa dreams of becoming a top-flight business consultant. She succeeds in earning the trust and esteem of her beauty department colleagues, and is quickly promoted to product development at headquarters, supported by Yurie Minegishi in human resources. And then one day, she gets a directive from Sakamoto to steal the secret to a long-selling, medicated skin conditioner that is slated for a model change. Fortunately, Akane is assigned to the R&D lab in charge of new skin conditioner development where she is given a cool reception by her new boss, Chika Nakanowatari. Determined to get the information she needs, Akane follows Nakanowatari to a research facility in Shirakami, but ends up getting lost in the snowy mountains. When she is at last found by Nakanowatari, Akane is surprised by the first-time display of emotion she receives from Nakanowatari, who slaps her and then embraces her. Akane begins to see the passion with which the people at this company make their cosmetic products and gradually begins to harbor doubts about her real mission. Then when she learns of Nakanowatari’s sad past, Akane feels her own life beginning to change.
