A medical thriller based on Takeru Kaido's novel, Black Forceps 1988, protagonist Seishiro Tokai is a surgical genius whose perfect operational success rate has earned him the monikier, “The Demon of O.R.” at the Tojo University Hospital, a name that also points to his overbearing and solitary personality. He is countered by a rookie physician, Gonta Takashina, who comes to the hospital from a different medical university advocating hard for cutting edge medical technology that promises to render individual differences in surgical skill obsolete and level the playing field among surgeons. Naturally, a battle brews Takashina and Tokai who is adverse to the idea of machines taking over surgical procedures, particularly with regard to cardiac surgery. Tokai also confronts a powerful university hospital system that is rife with jealousies and political intrigue, and seeks to expose a hidden past and new technology corruption scandal in this highly entertaining medical drama.

Working two jobs and forsaking her personal life, Chinatsu finally fulfilled her dream of owning her own flower shop two years ago. However, she guards a dark secret from her mother that the man who largely funded her business, and that she currently is in a relationship with, is the same man who drove her father to suicide. Nagai takes his son to the hospital run by his father-in-law, but his son is again attacked and left in a coma. Nagai is interrogated by police detectives and finds himself the chief suspect due to the emergence of a number of pieces of unfavorable evidence. Is someone setting him up? At the verge of giving up, he is struck by another option - he becomes a fugitive, striving to prove his innocence and find the real killer while his son hovers at deaths’ door.

Eijiro graduated from a prestigious medical school and began his career as a doctor full of wide-eyed enthusiasm. Eidai Hospital is one of the largest and most prestigious teaching hospitals, and Eijiro swells with pride to be associated with its team of elite doctors. But Eijiro soon learns that the hospital is a place where bribes and big egos can affect patient care. Further, Eijiro is only allowed to complete manial tasks, keeping him from truly fulfilling his dream of helping patients. Working for experience in the ER, Eijiro freezes during a patient's treatment and cannot bring himself to face the opening table again. To make up for his inabilities, Eijiro vows to do anything he can to help the patients, even if it means putting his carrer on thi line to stand up to those hindering patient care.

At 55, Kan-ichi Kanzaki is the old-fashioned and overbearing father of the Kanzaki family: his wife Miyako, his son Tadashi, and his two daughters Sayuri and Suzu. Being an “oyaji,” a stubborn middle-aged man that cannot keep his opinion to himself, Kan-ichi is particularly bothered when he views what he believes to be a failure in the public’s morals. But unlike the occasional stranger, his kids have to live under his scrutiny every day, and there are plenty of family crises to draw his ire. Although he can be strict, his actions are driven by his love for his family, and one can’t help but be touched and amused by the loving efforts of such an “oyaji.”
