Police Corporal Kankichi Ryotsu of the Kameari Park Police Box, Katsushika Ward, Tokyo, is the best-intentioned guy you’d ever want to meet, but nothing he does ever goes right and he causes nothing but trouble. One day Ryotsu runs into Momoko, a girl he used to like way back in primary school. His heart leaps. Suddenly the Police Commissioner’s daughter is kidnapped, and Ryotsu learns that Momoko has been caught up in the case. For her sake, he sets to work solving it. Based on Seicho Matsumoto’s famous work that was released in 1960-61, this drama illustrates the life of a man burdened with a heavy fate in a contemporary setting.

A high school student’s mother passes away leaving her alone with her grief. The girl, Marimo, discovers the name of a father she never knew. Marimo sets off to meet him, but is completely shocked when she finds someone very different from the father she envisioned. Her father, Shinpei, a 38-year-old would-be private detective, is shocked too, and doesn’t believe her until he sees the paperwork. With Marimo muttering “The worst father in the world” and Shinpei lamenting the loss of his freedom, these two are about to learn how difficult and rewarding a father/daughter relationship can be.
