Political circumstances force upstart doctor, Kazuaki Okita, to leave a busy hospital life and his girlfriend behind and go to the United States where he takes part in countless operations and develops into a top-notch surgeon. Then, at the behest of his ex-lover’s father, he returns to Japan to find his girlfriend has gone and married his best friend who actually masterminded Okita’s original exile from the hospital ten years ago. Unbeknownst to all of this, Okita is reunited with his ex-lover and best friend and the varying peculiarities of the hospital staff. Though awkward at times, Okita is single-minded in his pursuit of good medicine, endearing him to his patients and forcing his colleagues to rethink the true meaning of medicine and the value of life in a hospital drama swirling with passion, ambition, friendship, jealousy and pride.

This time, the scandal is in ER.- A mysterious letter arrives for Dr. Kimiko Taguchi (Yuko Takeuchi), a specialist in “unidentified clinical syndromes” at Tojo University Hospital. The letter reads: “Chief Surgeon Hayami of the Emergency Center has a collusive relationship with a medical supplies maker. And the head nurse is in on it with him.” - Somewhere under all the mystery lies an unimaginable truth.

At the Tojo University Hospital, a group of specialists in the type of heart surgery called the “Batista operation,” which is said to have a success rate of 60%, have formed a specialist team called “Team Batista,” and the team is improving their record miraculously with 26 consecutive successful cases. However, all of a sudden, there are three operational death cases in a row. Are they just accidents? Or murders? A doctor, Taguchi is assigned to conduct an internal investigation. Taguchi, who knows nothing about surgery, reluctantly plays the role of a detective, but, not surprisingly, things don’t work. When Taguchi is trying to wrap up her investigation by determining that those operational deaths are simply accidents, a daring and astute government official of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare named Shiratori shows up in front of Taguchi, saying “These are murder cases. The suspect is among the 7 members of Team Batista!” The two investigate the Team Batista members once again…

Widower Takumi lives a quiet life with his six-year-old son Yuji after the loss of wife and mother Mio. Yuji unfailingly remembers her promise to him: “I’ll be with you again in a year’s time, when the rains come.” On the first anniversary of her passing, Takumi and Yuji are taking a walk in the woods when they come across a woman sheltering from a monsoon downpour. She bears an uncanny resemblance to Mio, but has no recollection of who she is or what she is doing there. Yumi, a 23-year-old office worker, is fired from her job out of the blue. A few days later, coming from a friend's wedding and having no time to change out of her kimono, she is rushing to an interview for a job at a publishing company. Yumi stumbles into the room, looking for somewhere to change out of her kimono, and finds popular comic book writer Reijiro Sakurai is having an editorial meeting with some staff. He is planning to lock himself away at a hot spring for the next three months to concentrate on his next project. Sakurai comments that if Yumi were to join him he wouldn't mind being away for so long..., and so their adventure begins.

A visiting substitute teacher for a woman on maternity leave, Sentaro, shakes things up with his passionate and direct teaching style and meets resistance from the entire school. Motoko, the daughter of his landlord is one of his colleagues and strongest critics. Another colleague asks Sentaro to fix him up with Motoko, and Sentaro is more than happy to oblige since he has fallen for her sister. Noriko, however, does not agree. Another young doctor has a very good reputation and his more compassionate personality clashes with Naoe’s. Despite Naoe’s strict treatment of Noriko and others, she begins to see a hidden kindness in him. She begins to like him as more than just a colleague, but she senses that he is hiding something. However, she will soon find out that his secret threatens more than she could possibly imagine.
