A satisfyingly heart-warming comedy in support of all people struggling to make their way in an age of revolutionary changes to the workplace. First tackling the issue of overtime work, the drama spotlights not only systemic reforms taking place, but the change in mindset occurring among working people as they re-envision the shape of future society and the balance between life and work. Currently, Japanese society encompasses widening views on overtime including those who regard it as a necessary evil and others who still see it as a virtue. The protagonist in this story, however, does not. As is a new-age working girl with the personal motto: “Go home at the appointed time,” her working life is a constant battle with High-maintenance r colleagues and ethically-questionable superiors. And yet she still manages to discover small miracles every day, imparting pithy yet inspirational messages about Why we work, the importance of self-love and the value of friendship.

The setting is the opulent “Hibarigaoka” hilltop district coveted by anyone with dreams of wealth. The story revolves around three families: the Endos, the Takahashis and the Kojimas. Mayumi Endo has scrimped and saved to at last build a small house in the district, fulfilling a long-cherished dream. But reality proved much different. The Takahashis across the street seem to Mayumi a model family leading a blessed and happy existence. That is until the same type of trouble that the Endos are experiencing with a violently rebellious daughter, occurs tragically at the Takahashis, destroying Mayumi’s picture of an ideal home. The husband, Hiroyuki, is murdered, and the second son, Shinji, goes missing, making him the prime suspect in the eyes of the police, the Endos, the Kojimas and among the remaining children at the Takahashi home. Unremarkable office worker, Kazuhisa Fukase, leads a boring life. The only place he can relax is the Clover Coffee Shop. Here he meets Mihoko Ochi and they begin to date. Just as he begins to grow accustomed to a more enjoyable life, something occurs that drives a wedge between the lovers. Mihoko receives a letter that accuses Fukase of being a murderer. Fukase realizes that he must now disclose the only darkness that happened in his life. He begins to tell Mihoko of a “secret” that he has not spoken of for ten years…
