Iku Kasahara joins the ‘Task Force’, the special unit of the Kanto Area Library Defense Force, in search of her ‘prince’, a Task Force member who once rescued a book about to be seized from her by the ‘Betterment Squad’, the paramilitary arm of the Censorship Enforcement Agency. She does not remember what this man looks like, and is attached to the Dojo Squad, where she is trained to within an inch of her life by its martinet of an instructor, Atsushi Dojo.
She meets a Deaf woman, Marie Nakazawa, a childhood friend of an older member of the Task Force, Mikihisa Komaki, who is advising Marie on books she should read. Iku senses that Marie is in love with Komaki. Meanwhile, the librarian Asako Shibasaki is meeting frequently with a curator who has introduced himself as Shuji Asahina. Hikaru Tezuka, also of the Task Force, is fond of Asako, and is not sure what to think about all this.
Now Komaki is arrested by the Betterment Squad. A book he recommended to Marie had not been approved. Komaki is taken away, leaving the other members of the Task Force enraged at his detention on these dubious grounds.
To make matters even worse, Iku’s parents show up. They were strongly opposed to her joining Library Defense, and now her secret—the fact that much of her job involves armed combat—is revealed.
Will Komaki and Marie be torn apart? What fateful decision will Dojo make as confusion engulfs his unit? And how will Iku get through this?

It is a time in which the expression of thought is censored, and the media is tightly controlled. Bearing up under a harsh regimen of instruction under the terrifying Atsushi Dojo, Iku Kasahara is now a full-fledged member of the Library Defense ‘Task Force’, and divides her time between hard physical training and regular library work. Dojo and the rest of the Task Force are ordered to guard a public exhibition featuring ‘The Handbook of Library Law’, a book widely seen as the symbol of freedom, of which there is only one existing copy. The assignment seems easy enough, but this is in fact a trap designed to wipe out and thus disband the Task Force and restore a twisted society to the correct moral path. Can Dojo and his unit defend both an invaluable book and themselves? The members of the Task Force must put their lives on the line in the greatest battle they have ever faced: The Last Mission.

In 2019, public anger at media excess has led to censorship of television, newspapers, the internet, books, movies, and music under the 'Media Betterment Act'. To fight the armed 'Betterment Squads' that go around destroying objectionable materials, the nation's libraries have formed their own para-military 'Library Defense'. Iku Kasahara is a new recruit to the defense, where her instructor and squad leader is Atsushi Dojo. At first repelled by his by-the-book approach to leadership, she is gradually won over by his commitment to their battle for 'books' and 'the freedom to know'.

This fast-paced comedy is a collection of one-off stories which blends the modern and traditional by basing each episode on a classic rakugo storyline.

Bored juvenile delinquents and gangsters, a worshipped movie star, a cult rock band and other unusual personalities about town are just a small sample of the colorful citizenry that provide the backdrop for this unconventional comedy. Bussan, the captain of the baseball team “Kisarazu Cats’ Eye”, has just been told for the third time that he has only got six months to live. Bussan decides to get on with his life but soon finds himself carried away on a wacky adventure where events and characters spiral together and escalate toward an unimaginable conclusion. This funny and fast-paced modern comedy is not to be missed.

Haruko Takanashi is 30. She works at a radio station, and is approaching middle management where good looks alone aren’t enough. She isn’t very romantic so she devotes herself to work and play and suddenly finds herself alone. Just when she has given up on romance she meets a man at a party to which she was taken by a subordinate at work. He is 25-year-old Ichiro Kashiwakura and is nothing out of the ordinary. They start a relationship, and one day, out of the blue, Ichiro ardently proposes to Haruko. Realizing that he really loves her, Haruko says yes and they get married. But she still hasn’t told him her real age. Now Haruko has to cope with living with Ichiro’s mother, Satoko, eldest sister Setsuko who has returned home, 2nd daughter Kazuko who has just returned from a prestigious overseas post with her company and the third daughter Sachiko who seems to have reached a bit of a dead end in her life. Competition for Ichiro’s attention is only one of many problems that arise!

Twenty-one year old former high school baseball player, Kohei, learns that he is dying from cancer. He is told that he only has six months to live, and decides that he wants to do something daring and risky. He proposes to five trusted members from his former baseball club that they form a ring of cat burglars that would steal from those who commit crimes. His friends think it odd, but feel they cannot turn down a dying man’s request. With only six months, how much could they do anyway?

At 55, Kan-ichi Kanzaki is the old-fashioned and overbearing father of the Kanzaki family: his wife Miyako, his son Tadashi, and his two daughters Sayuri and Suzu. Being an “oyaji,” a stubborn middle-aged man that cannot keep his opinion to himself, Kan-ichi is particularly bothered when he views what he believes to be a failure in the public’s morals. But unlike the occasional stranger, his kids have to live under his scrutiny every day, and there are plenty of family crises to draw his ire. Although he can be strict, his actions are driven by his love for his family, and one can’t help but be touched and amused by the loving efforts of such an “oyaji.”
