In Okinawa and Kagoshima, efforts ramp up to bring MER teams that can access remote islands.
That’s when Nankai MER is born—a trial unit that travels by ferry with a specially outfitted ER vehicle, NK1, bringing critical care to the islands of the southern seas.
Tokyo MER’s Chief Doctor Kitami and head nurse Natsume are sent as instructors, dedicating themselves to providing care in places where proper medical treatment is hard to come by.
Then disaster strikes. A massive eruption hits Suwanosejima Island in Kagoshima. Lava devours the village, and massive volcanic rocks rain down, destroying everything in their path. Thick smoke grounds helicopters, and backup from the Self-Defense Forces and Coast Guard is still a long way off.
79 residents are stranded with no way out. Against all odds, Nankai MER launches a high-risk mission—to not allow a single casualty.
